ASDA Price Guarantee Is Closing

ASDA Price Guarantee is closing.

Howls of despair!

Seriously, one of the best ways to womble is no longer going to be available, as of the 3rd of October, 2018.

Wombling is the practice of picking up discarded receipts and redeeming them on the relevant manufacturer’s site (or in store) for coupons or discounts. Even for those who didn’t seek out discarded receipts, getting a discount on future shopping based on past shopping could be a good deal, and I personally have had a few good results from wombling.

What is/was the ASDA Price Guarantee?

ASDA guaranteed that their prices would be at least 10% cheaper than their competitors, and offered a service where one could check the prices online after purchasing and receive a coupon for the difference in price, plus 10%.

Why is the ASDA Price Guarantee closing?

The official line is that ASDA are simply going to focus on lowering prices. Their email to customers stated: “When we’ve asked what our customers want us to focus on most the response has been clear – invest everything you can in everyday low prices. So, that’s what we’ve decided to do.”

We’ve heard that line before from Tesco, and I don’t think there’s any reason other than protecting the bottom line. Businesses have to do what results in a profit, and it was either too popular or not popular enough.

How long do you have to redeem coupons?

You can check your receipts up until the 3rd of October, and you have 28 days after that to redeem your coupons, so the last day will be the 31st of October, 2018.

Will this affect your money saving strategy?

Honestly, it won’t affect mine that much. I was already shopping at ASDA far less than before, and getting something around 50p back in the last few months.

There are still a few supermarket savings hacks to try, and I’m sure they can help you to save. I’ll have to get busy updating my posts here about wombling!

Farewell, ASDA Price Guarantee – you were fun while you lasted!
