Extra Income Report – April 2017.

Even though I started the month with a feeling of dread over my impending car insurance renewal, things worked out pretty darned well! It has been a truly big month for me in many ways, and honestly, keeping track of the money-making aspect of things has been at the bottom of my list.

Interestingly, I don’t really care too much about that! I’m feeling much happier about everything at the start of May. You’ll have to stick around to find out more, though, because right now it’s just about the numbers for April.

Read on for details of our extra income!

  • Interest – £103.62

  • Cashback – £115.11

Rules for calculating extra income.

What goes in?

Cashback, interest, bonuses, competition wins, discounts earned through loyalty points, voucher codes or special activity, found money (substantial amounts), gifts, tax refunds that would otherwise be unclaimed, earnings from online or offline sales, as well as earnings from surveys, apps and freelance writing work.

What doesn’t go in?

Our salaries, regular sale refunds (as in buying something and then returning it), discounts on items in store or online that are available to all, general estimates of what we could have spent but didn’t – as in, reducing bills and calculating what the difference would be.

 Here’s our income in detail:

Cashback breakdown:

Interest

My Nationwide regular saver matured in April and helped us defy the effects of the base rate drop. It was great seeing the results of a year’s worth of stoozing, but it’s time to call it quits and pay off all the 0% cards, even though they have some time left on them.

This will help us build our credit scores up ready for either switching bank accounts for cash, or who knows – possibly getting a new mortgage on a new home?

Coupons

Somehow I thought that wombling APG coupons wasn’t great this month, but we still had a decent discount on one of our shops – all of our coupons were used in one go so I guess I thought the entire month was slower than it was. My head’s not in the couponing game at the moment but it was actually better than last month!

Online Earnings

The only survey site I bother with at the moment is Pinecone Research. Even then I’m struggling to build enthusiasm for surveys… but until further notice I’ll stick with it. At £3 a go it’s ok for filling a few minutes, but these days I’m finding all sorts of ways to fill my minutes!

Refunds

We were intrigued by an offer from an eBay seller to refund 15% of our next purchase with them… it so happened that we planned to make a repeat purchase anyway and by some miracle I actually remembered to email back asking for my 15% refund, which they honoured!

I don’t know why, but isn’t it embarrassing having to email and ask for money? I don’t like it, but I still got £2.13 back from it.

Art

I actually made a little money from a sale a few months ago on Zippi – but didn’t realise that payments aren’t automatically processed. I finally remembered and withdrew my payment – nothing to write home about, but considering that I never promote my work, I’m pleased with anything I get via print-on-demand sites.

Yes, I need to work on this. It’s on the list!

Going back in time…

I published my first extra income report last April. I’m happy to say I made more this month that back then, but interestingly, my online earnings were exactly the same! I think there’s a lot to be said for sticking with what you like, and trying a few new things here and there. Have a look and see what has changed and what I’ve done since then.

So, over to you. What do you think of my April extra income? Let me know in the comments below!
