Extra Income Report – August 2018

Extra Income Report: August 2018

Extra income report: August 2018.

It was a good month! Not just in terms of work done on the side, but in terms of getting off of the treadmill for a little while as well. All of us had the chance to fall out of our routines and it did us a lot of good. I did have a few projects planned for August but they didn’t really shape up, but it’s probably just as well as I don’t usually get the chance to just enjoy sitting still.

So what did the side income look like?

Here’s a breakdown of our passive and side hustle income for August.

  • Dividends – £2.01
  • Online Earnings – £6
  • Cashback – £38.32
  • Coupons – £3.96
  • Interest – £21.66
  • Blog – £437.71

Total: £508.66

My rules for calculating our extra income.

What do we include?

Cashback, bank interest and incentives, dividends, bonuses, competition wins, discounts earned through loyalty points, voucher codes or special activity, found money (substantial amounts), gifts, tax refunds that would otherwise be unclaimed, earnings from online or offline sales, as well as earnings from surveys, apps and freelance writing work.

What doesn’t qualify?

Our salaries, regular sale refunds (such as buying something and then returning it), discounts on items in store or online that are available to all, general estimates of what we could have spent but didn’t – such as reducing a bill and calculating what the difference would have been.

 Here’s our income in detail:

Interest

Bank interest perked up slightly, but that wasn’t due to the recent base rate rise; rather, it’s mostly due to TSB having to raise their interest rates back up to 5% on their current accounts to make amends for the shambolic year they’ve inflicted on their customers.

Dividends

My very first dividend payment! Well, this one came out of the blue. I had no idea I was to expect it, and frankly, since starting investing I just put it on the back burner and totally left it alone. I’m thinking 5 years ahead with that, so any extra income was a nice surprise. £2.01 won’t set the world alight but I’m having it!

Cashback

Between the two of us we cashed out £37.32 in Tesco e-gift cards, which came in the same week that I found the £11 Zeek credit that I’d earned back in February and promptly forgot about! The gift cards went straight to groceries, nothing fancy.

Online Earnings

You’ve heard this one before – Pinecone again!

Coupons

I used 51p in APG coupons, and somewhat randomly, paid for a book with £3.45 in The Works store points. I was just wondering if there was any point in collecting them as well!

Blogs

Well, wow. This is the best month so far for blog work, and I’m really pleased with how it’s going. £20 was from Affiliate Window, a great network to join even if you’re a small blogger.

What can I say about the rest of it but… yay! Unfortunately, I’m the kind of person who always looks forward to the next goal without spending enough time enjoying the ones I’ve met, and I have to stop myself from dwelling on the blogs that aren’t doing as well as the others. Trying to run a blog network in my situation is a bit crazy, to be honest, so I should be happy to have things going well for them in general.

This figure doesn’t take into consideration having to renew one of my domain names during this month.

That’s all for this month…

As sorry as I am to see the end of the summer holidays, I’m looking forward to slotting into a routine again and maybe making it better. There are art exhibitions on the horizon this month, so I’m going to be busy with those, and maybe I’ll have something to report in future posts!

Over to you.
