It’s officially autumn, and it feels as though the race is on to get the house winter-proofed. In truth, we should have done a lot of this last year, for our first winter here, but things tend to get in the way… or at least, that’s my excuse.
This time around we really need to keep those drafts out – it sounds like it’s going to be a cold one! In the meantime, here’s what we’ve been up to over the last two weeks:
Nationwide referrals
Ste and I have been Nationwide customers since 2014, but we’ve never really taken up their £100 refer-a-friend offer until recently.
I’ve arranged a few referrals in the last few weeks, and they should give out £100 to each person who opens an account, as well as £100 to us. Check out this post about refer-a-friend schemes, and the Nationwide referral.
Timing my TopCashback payout
I’ve gotten into a pattern of using our TopCashback* payments (in the form of virtual MasterCards) to pay our council tax online.
When you request a payment this way, you’re sent an email with login details so you can view your card. My problem has been either forgetting to request the payout in time, or having it sitting around for so long before the first of the month that I get confused over which email has the right link or which one’s been used before (especially when both of us have one from our separate cashback accounts).
My new way around this is to set up a calendar event on my phone for a few days before the end of the month, reminding me to request my payout. That way it’s fresh in my mind and top of my inbox when it comes time to pay the council tax!
My Money Pocket
I’ve just found out about a new cashback site called My Money Pocket*. Of course I’m a committed fan of the cashback sites I already use, but anything that offers an alternative and a bit of competition is very welcome!
We’ll be checking it out over the next few weeks and seeing if we can make any savings with it.
Snap N Save cashback
Yesterday we went to the supermarket, and after a quick check of my TopCashback app I found an offer for a free bag of popcorn as well as 10p off a 1kg bag of carrots. There were others as well, but these were the two we found useful.
We’d have bought the carrots anyway, so getting a little back was a bonus, and the free popcorn was a nice little surprise treat for all of us to share after school.
Moo referral credit
Hooray for both of us – a friend used my Moo referral link to get 25% off their purchase and I got £15 in credit!
I have to say, I love Moo’s products. Their business cards are the business (sorry) and everything they provide is high-quality. I’m looking forward to getting my next batch of business cards soon!
