The weeks just rush by when you’re busy, don’t they?
I’ve got a few weeks off of work and I’ve been trying to get a lot done so I can satisfy that nagging urge to “be productive”, but still enjoy my freedom at the same time. So far I’ve hit a few goals – I published my paperback wedding planner and I’m really happy with that, so I guess I’ve earned a bit of a rest, right?
Anyway, on to the frugal stuff!
Electronics repair
Ste’s window cleaning machine decided to start playing up, so after a bit of investigation it turned out to be corrosion on the battery stopping the metal connectors from making a close connection.
He fixed it by cleaning the connectors with white vinegar – it’s also a good way to repair kids’ toys that suffer from battery malfunctions, so keep that in mind!
A bit of car repair
Ste was on a bit of a handyman roll this week, fixing the bracket that holds up our car’s exhaust.
That’s bangernomics for you – it takes a bit of work but so far so good… you can see how well it works out for us in this post, where we calculate how much our old cars actually cost to run.
eBay brought in some unexpected cash
I really don’t like listing on eBay much – I don’t know why, but it’s true. Still, we do have plenty of things that we need to shift, and when we cleared out our shed one sunny day last week, I took the opportunity to quickly list some benches that emerged from said shed.
They languished at 99p for ages until I totally forgot about them, only to get a notification that they’d sold for over £20. So I got a bit of cash and they were gone the next day!
Curve cash x Shopmium
What’s better than free food? Free food and free cash!
Basically, I used £5 of my Curve cash – my Curve card rewards points – to buy £5 of food that I got refunded by Shopmium.
I gotta tell ya, I love little wins like that!
You can join Shopmium here and get started off with a free jar of Nutella.
Ant control
White vinegar to the rescue again, no kidding… this time it was eradicating an ant’s nest full of squillions of big ol’ invading ants. I’m not normally squeamish about ants, but these guys were big, and entirely in the wrong place.
Prior to this I had no idea that white vinegar could kill ants and keep them away, but it’s true – and cheaper than harsh chemical alternatives.
Over to you…
How has your frugal fortnight been? Less vinegary than mine, hopefully!
I’m linking up with Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky.

Lovely! My favourite bits are those tips with the vinegar. I didn’t know this at all, especially its use on toys. Thanks for sharing and well done on your eBay sales.
