Five Frugal Things We’ve Done 26/07/19

Five frugal things we've done 26/07/19

Some surprising developments have meant that Little Balders is with us for the entire summer holiday – yay!

Now we have to work on how to make it through the six weeks with a shopaholic teen without ending up entirely skint. It can be done!

Bank account switching

Once upon a time, I was the one who was gung ho for switching current accounts for cash, and Ste was the one who hated having so many accounts. Now, the tables have surely turned… I don’t mind having multiple current accounts, but Ste’s been cracking the whip on switching.

Between us we’ve switched 4 accounts, and should net £350 over the summer if I’ve remembered correctly!

Checking credit scores

The finance-savvy amongst you may already know that Noddle has been rebranded as Credit Karma after being acquired by another company.

It’s just the same as before, though, and you can check on your credit score for free. No surprises on mine, but for some reason I’m not on the electoral register at my new address, so that’s something to sort.

Kids’ Pass app

School holidays are expensive affairs, and that’s just with the one not-so-little-one to entertain. As we’re always on the lookout for a frugal win, we’re using our Kids Pass to seek out some bargains to make it a bit easier.

Our first idea was to look for a discount on Blackpool Pleasure Beach tickets, and we would have saved some money, but we had to go with another method that gave us an offer we couldn’t refuse…

Blackpool Pleasure Beach for 50p!

You heard me right – just like our crazy breakdown cover for next to nothing, this week we managed to book two Blackpool Pleasure Beach tickets for the grand total of 50p.

How? Tesco Clubcard points yet again!

I didn’t go because amusement parks are my idea of a level of torment higher than the dentist’s chair, but the guys had a great day out.

Cashback & receipt apps

I feel as though I mention Shopmium every week, so I don’t want to labour the point here… but the fact is, I’m making a lot of savings with it. Check out my latest grocery spending update to see what I mean, and let me just add that I also got an absolutely delicious £3 non-dairy ice cream tub for free, which has made me incredibly happy!

But I also want to mention Shoppix, with which I’m steadily building up my first payout. It’s a slow burner, but money for snapping receipts is still money, and it doesn’t take much time away from other things.

Over to you…

Has it been a good couple of weeks for you, money-wise? Here’s hoping!

Last fortnight

I’m linking up with CassEmma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky.

  1. Super savvy saver!

I always look forward to reading about these #fivefrugalthings. Just now I tried signing up on that site to check my credit score (first time ever!). I didn’t get through however. It kept asking me for my zip code (I’m on holiday in CT) and I just couldn’t bypass it. I suppose I’ll have to wait until next month when I get back home.
I’ve made a bank account switch this year and can safely say this will be me as of now. I won’t hold myself hostage to any bank whatsoever, so wherever the money can be made, that’s where I’m going.
Do have a fab week ahead.
